Anita Smisek

Anita Smisek OP (* 1941 in Lonsdale , Minnesota ) is an American Dominican , music publisher, pianist and organist.

Smisek studied piano with Mary Davida Wood , Mary Edward Blackwell and Milous Ferlik , organ with Rosilla Gross , Miriam Murphy and Robert Luther and singing with Mary Margaret Leahy , Oksana Bryn and Axel Theimer . In 1960 she became a member of the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters in Sinsinawa , Wisconsin . She is committed to the dissemination of contemporary Czech music in the USA and, during her time as organist at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague, published the hymnbook Give Glory , which contains 77 well-known Czech chorales in English translation. She recorded traditional Czech songs on the albums Koledy - Czech Christmas Carols , Ryba - Czech Christmas Mass and Give Glory, Earth and Heaven . In 1989 she founded with Joel Blahnik the publisher Alliance Publications , the particularly the publication of music education and church music works and promotion devoted to contemporary and particularly Czech compositions.
