Anna Eriksson

Anna Sofia Eriksson (born April 22, 1977 in Ihode ( Pyhäranta )) is a Finnish pop singer . Her best-known albums include the hits Juliet ja Joonatan (1996, “Juliet and Joonatan”) and Kun katsoit minuun (2001, “If you look at me”). Anna Eriksson is one of the most successful Finnish artists in terms of sales.

Eriksson lived in countries other than Finland at the beginning of her life due to the work of her father (engineer). She lived on two continents, in Saudi Arabia, India and Tanzania, and together they lived abroad for about eight years. Eriksson has been an avid singer and actress since childhood. On her trips abroad she sang at many children's birthday parties, embassy celebrations, in churches and at school celebrations. In addition, she was a vocal soloist in the band of the International School of Moshi (Tanzania). During the senior years Anna, her brother Antti and mother Tuula stayed in Finland because of school.

Before starting her solo career, Anna Eriksson worked as a background singer, including on a CD by the band “Finlanders”. In Eriksson's musical family, father played bass and guitar, mother sang and big brother played the saxophone. Anna Eriksson plays the piano and clarinet in addition to her singing.

In 2000 Eriksson took part in the Grand Prix and was just four points behind the winner. The piece Oot voimani mun (“You are my strength”) was later sent to the “OGAE Second Chance” competition. The successful piece brought Finland to win this competition for the first time.

Eriksson also received the Emma Award in 1998 and 2002 . In 1999 she received the incentive grant, which is financed by the Sauli Lehtonen Foundation, and the award for female singers from Radio SuomiPop .

Anna Eriksson was the most played local artist on commercial radio stations in 2004 - her pieces were played 17,682 times on the radio. Her albums Odota mua (“Wait for me”), Kun katsoit minuun (“If you look at me”) and Sinusta sinuun (“From you to you”) were sold so often that they were awarded platinum. The Anna Eriksson album even went double platinum and sold over 81,000 times.

Eriksson started out as a self-writing and composing singer, her last album arose from the collaboration with Simo "Sipe" Santapukki . Santapukki and Eriksson dated for three years, but the relationship ended when they split in early 2007.

Eriksson went on a concert tour to mark her tenth anniversary as an artist in 16 locations in autumn 2005 to present her new CD.
