Anna Kott

Anna Kott (born July 15, 1975 in Ruda Śląska , Poland ) is a Polish-German visual artist. She works with the media of painting, drawing and photography.

life and work

Anna Kott studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow , Poland , from 1995 to 2001 . During her studies she deepened her knowledge in 1999 with a Socrates Erasmus scholarship at the London College of Printing , where she successfully completed her studies in serigraphy after two semesters . Anna Kott has lived and worked in Berlin since 2002 .

The thematic continuity and visible logical stringency lies with Kott in the “view of the inner man”. Themes and questions are thought out in painterly dimensions and compositions. She deals with the symbols and styles of traditional painting, reinterprets them and transfers them to her own thematic worlds: women, sexuality, crossing boundaries, opposites and identities. The expression of her painting in oil on canvas and on paper is shaped by the motifs, but also by the use of color, by different painting techniques and by the respective image carrier . Intensive and restrained material applications are transferred to the canvas in an interplay.

Since 2010 Anna Kott has also been working with the medium of photography. The special dynamics and the “right timing” represent a special attraction for her. While photography is a confrontation with the outside world, her painting is created through an inner confrontation. She sees photography as an addition to her painting, which can be combined to form a large overall picture.

Exhibitions

Her works have been shown in exhibitions in Germany, Poland, Belgium, El Salvador and Honduras. Since 2010 she has been a permanent member of the Alexander Ochs Galleries Berlin | Beijing.
