Anne Bucher

Anne Bucher is a French EU civil servant who joined the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety on October 1, 2018 .

Life

Anne Bucher obtained Masters degrees in economics and statistics in 1981. She received her PhD in applied macroeconomics from the Paris Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in 1983 .

She then joined the European Commission , initially until 1988 for the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). She then worked as an economic advisor to the EU delegation for Zambia for four years . She then held the post of advisor for EU expansion and the Eastern European countries until 1995. As head of the Evaluation group, she then worked in the Directorate General for Employment and Social Affairs until 2000 . In 2003 she moved to the General Directorate Taxation and Customs Union as head of the “Economic Analysis of Taxation” department . She then headed the strategy department in the Information Society Directorate-General until 2008, followed by a time until 2011 as Director of Resources. She then moved back to DG ECFIN as Director for Competition and Structural Reform, where she was acting Deputy Director General from July 2015 to February 2016. This was followed by her position as Chair of the Regulatory Scrutiny Committee of the European Commission until September 2018. Since October 1, she has headed the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety.
