Anne Marx

Anne Marx , née Anneliese Löwenstein , (* 1913 in Bleicherode ; † April 16, 2006 in the USA ) was a German-American poet.

Life

Anne Marx was born as Anneliese Löwenstein in the Harz Mountains in 1913. In 1925 her family moved to Worms, where she graduated from high school in 1932. She then studied medicine in Berlin and Heidelberg. In 1934 she had to give up her studies under the pressure of the Nazi regime and was excluded from studying due to the Nuremberg Laws because of her Jewish origin.

In 1935 she published her first volume of poetry. In 1936 she moved to the USA. There she published more than a thousand poems.
