Annette des Iles

Annette Auguste des Iles is a diplomat from Trinidad and Tobago and was chairwoman of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) from 1994 to 1997 .

After joining the diplomatic service, Ms. des Iles was ambassador to Ecuador from 1980 to 1985 . From 1985 to 1989 she was then permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and then until 1992 permanent secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture.

From 1992 to 1998 Ms. des Iles was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations . During her tenure, she was also ambassador to Venezuela , Colombia and Peru . In December 1994 she became vice-chair of a working group on the financial situation of the UN .

In 1994 she succeeded Robert Van Lierop as chairwoman of AOSIS. She held this office until she was replaced by Tuiloma Neroni Slade in 1997.

Since 2000, she has been permanent secretary to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, initially serving Basdeo Panday and, since December 24, 2001, Patrick Manning . Since 1998, Ms. des Iles has also been the director of the public service.

Her husband Gerard des Iles was President of the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago.
