Annika Froewis

Annika Fröwis (born May 18, 1994 ) is an Austrian chess player.

Life

Annika Fröwis learned to play chess from her father. Her older brother Georg is also a chess player; he was Austrian national champion in 2011 and 2016. She attended the Sacré Coeur Riedenburg and studies in Vienna . Annika trains with Harald Schneider-Zinner as a member of the women's national team.

successes

Her chess club is the Donaustadt Vienna chess club , where she plays in the 2nd Bundesliga East. In the 2014/15 season she won the Austrian Women's Chess League with SK Dornbirn.

Annika Fröwis was able to win numerous medals in the youth competitions, including eight gold medals at state championships in tournament chess. At the European Youth Championship U18 in Prague she reached 10th place.

In 2012 she was third behind Eva Moser and Anna-Christina Ragger at the women's state championship in Zwettl. In 2015 she became state champion in blitz chess .

She played several times for the Austrian women's national team at the women's Mitropa Cup : 2012 in Sibenik, 2016 in Prague, 2017 in Balatonszarszo and 2018 in Isola di Capo Rizzuto. In 2018, the Austrian team took 2nd place behind Germany. She also took part in the 2018 Chess Olympiad in Batumi, playing on board 4 for Austria.

In 2016 she became the FIDE Women's Champion (WFM). Her Elo rating is 2136 (as of August 2020), which is her highest rating to date.
