Georg Fröwis (born July 12, 1990 ) is an Austrian chess player .

Life

Georg Fröwis learned to play chess from his father. His younger sister Annika (* 1994) is also a chess player; she has held the title of FIDE Women's Champion (WFM) since 2016 . He attended the Bundesrealgymnasium Dornbirn-Schoren and studied in Vienna . Georg Fröwis was trained in his youth by the international master Milan Novkovic .

successes

In 2006 he won the Austrian U16 state championship in Tschagguns . In 2011 he won the Austrian state championship in Linz , and at the state championship 2012 in Zwettl-Niederösterreich , which was won by Dawit Schengelia , Georg Fröwis came third. In July 2016 he won the state championship for the second time in St. Johann im Pongau .

He played club chess for the Vorarlberg chess club Lustenau , from 2008 to 2019 for SK Hohenems , with which he became Austrian team champion in 2014 and took part in the European Club Cup , and since 2019 for mpimmo Vienna - SK Ottakring . In Switzerland he played from 2006 to 2011 for the St. Galler club SprengSchach Wil and since 2013 for black and white Bern and the SC Gonzen , with whom he in the seasons 2015/16 , 2017/18 and 2018/19 , the Swiss League won. Since 2017 he has been playing in the National League A for the Lucerne chess club , with which he became champion in 2018 . In the Vienna company championship he plays for the Technical University of Vienna . For the Austrian national team, he played at the Mitropa Cups in 2012 in Šibenik (on the reserve board) and in 2014 in Ružomberok (on the fourth board) as well as at the 2015 European Team Championship in Reykjavík on the reserve board.

Since October 2011 he has been the second person from Vorarlberg after Guntram Gärtner to hold the title of International Master. He achieved the standards for this at the Austrian individual championship 2009 in Jenbach , which he finished with fifth place, at the Vienna company championship 2010/11, at the Austrian individual championship 2011 in Linz, where he was able to defeat Dawit Schengelia, among others, and at an IM tournament organized by Stefan Löffler in the Wiener Stilwerk in August 2011. He is also a member of the Vienna SK Ottakring club .
