Parish Church of St. Georgen under Strasbourg
The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Georgen under Strasbourg in the municipality of Strasbourg stands isolated halfway up the slope. The obelisk of the 1923 war memorial towers above her . In 1044 Hemma von Gurk donated the St. Georgen farm to the Gurk convent she founded . According to this, St. Georgen could have been a separate church of St. Hemma. In 1326 St. Georgen is named as a branch of Hohenfeld , around 1340 it belonged to the parish of Strasbourg .
Building description
The church is a small, essentially Romanesque building, a nave with a round apse . It was changed in the baroque . The mighty Gothic tower on the north side of the nave has profiled sound openings and is crowned by a pyramid roof. One bell was cast by Heinrich Reinhard in 1620, and another by Vinzenz Gollner in 1847. A two-storey vestibule is built on the west side of the nave. The west portal is from the baroque era.
The flat ceiling in the nave is decorated with late baroque stucco fields. A wide, round triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir. A late Gothic round arched portal leads into the ribbed vaulted sacristy on the tower ground floor.
Facility
The high altar with a four-column structure was built in the first third of the 17th century. He already shows classicist influence. The middle picture shows St. George . The figures of St. Sebastian and Florian stand between the columns . The monogram of Jesus in the essay is flanked by Saints Martin and Georg. The tabernacle is crowned by the Lamb of God .
The winged altar on the north wall from the first third of the 17th century shows a relief of the coronation of the Virgin Mary and carries a carved figure of St. Agathe made around 1430/1440 . The painted representation of Salvator Mundi and two evangelists can be seen on the parapet of the pulpit , which was built around 1690 . Four wings of a former winged altar and carved figures of two female saints from the mid-18th century are attached to the west gallery. Large parts of the furnishings come from the former subsidiary church of St. Agathe in Mellach.
