SC Gonzen

The SC Gonzen (advertised chess club Gonzen) is a district club in the St. Galler Oberland ( Switzerland ) with headquarters in Sargans . It was founded in 1980 and named after the mountain peak of the same name above Sargans. In 2010 the association received an extraordinary award from the Swiss Chess Federation for promoting popular chess in Switzerland.

In the junior sector, the club provides several teams, including in the highest Swiss junior league (SJMM National League A, East Section). In addition to general junior training, additional advanced courses are offered.

In top chess, the club has a team in the 1st Swiss Bundesliga and won the Swiss group championship in this league in the 2015/16 , 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons .

The best- known member is Rustam Kasimjanov . Other grandmasters who play or have played for SC Gonzen are Sebastian Bogner , Ehsan Ghaem Maghami , Imre Héra , Bence Korpa , Csaba Balogh and Serhij Owsejewytsch .
