Guntram Gärtner (born April 20, 1963 in Bregenz ) is an Austrian chess player .

Life

Guntram Gärtner is a trained business graduate and worked, among other things, as a banker. He learned to play chess from his father at the age of eight.

His first chess club was the SK Hohenems , which he joined when he was 15. Guntram Gärtner has played with Hohenems in the highest Austrian league, the 1st Bundesliga , since 1995 and was team champion in the 2003/04 season . In Switzerland he plays for SC Reinach Rössli (after merger and renaming since 2011 Birsfeld / Beider Basel / Rössli ), in Germany he played for the Westallgäu club SC Lindenberg . With Hohenems he took part in the European Club Cups in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2006.

In 1981 he became the Vorarlberg regional youth champion. In 1995 he won an IM tournament in Götzis . He won the individual championship in Vorarlberg in 1998.

In 1994 he became a FIDE master . Since November 2000 he has been the first Vorarlberger to hold the title of International Master . Its Elo rating is 2278 (as of February 2014), its highest rating was 2397 from July to December 2000.
