Seat belt sign

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The seat belt sign is a luminous signal in the form of a pictogram , which is usually located above every row of seats in passenger aircraft . If it is lit, the flight passengers should put on the seat belt . Usually a gong sounds in the cabin when the seat belt signal changes .

The seat belt signs are normally regulated from the cockpit ; if turbulence is expected , the pilots can switch on the seat belt signs in advance. In addition, the seat belt signs are switched on during take-off and landing.

Next to the seat belt sign, mostly to the left of it, there is also the no- smoking sign , which is usually lit continuously, as there are hardly any airlines that allow smoking on board. The airlines that allow cell phone calls are planning to convert these characters into cell phone characters. Telephoning is not permitted when these light up. Like the smoking signs, they should be used during take-off and landing.
