Prohibition sign
When Prohibition signs are pictograms referred to a ban point. They belong to the safety marks . They are used to prevent behavior that could trigger a hazard (smoking ban at petrol stations) or to point out legal prohibitions.
Prohibition signs according to standard
The pictograms for prohibition signs are defined internationally in ISO 7010 (German version: DIN EN ISO 7010 ): as a black pictogram on a round sign with a white background (white / RAL 9003 signal white), a thick red border (red / RAL 3001 signal red) and a thick red crossbar (from top left to bottom right) that crosses the pictogram.
Prohibition signs were originally defined in DIN 4844. However, this now refers to ISO 7010 and expands it to include pictograms, recognition distances and color definitions according to RAL that are specially used in Germany .
The pictograms clearly represent a prohibited act or a prohibited object. For example, a crossed-out cigarette means that smoking is prohibited . The principle applies: one sign = one statement. In contrast to text signs, the pictograms allow internationally uniform and universally understandable signs.
Text signs often appear in combination with pictograms.
Prohibition signs in workplaces
The use of prohibition signs in workplaces is regulated by ASR A1.3 , which in the current version refers to prohibition signs according to ISO 7010 and the additions from DIN 4844-2. The DGUV regulation 9 (formerly BGV A 8) was replaced by the ASR A1.3. ASR A1.3 and DIN EN ISO 7010 define code letters for the various categories of safety signs:
- P = prohibition sign
- W = warning sign
- M = mandatory sign
- E = escape sign
- F = fire protection symbol
- S = additional character
- H = reference symbol
- C = combination sign
Each standardized safety label can be identified by the code letter and a three-digit number.
