history

The roots go back to 1916 when the Anshan Iron & Steel Works was founded. A massive expansion took place by the South Manchurian Railway in the interwar period. The company was called Shōwa Seitetsusho ( 昭和 製鋼 所 ) since 1933 . In 1938 the capacity was 750,000 tons of pig iron and 580,000 tons of steel. Production was transferred to the semi-state conglomerate Manshū Jūkōgyō Kaihatsu in March 1938 . After the liberation of China in 1948, the remnants of the company that had not been destroyed by the war were transferred to public ownership and further expanded.
