Ant Rowstron

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antony "Ant" Rowstron (* 1971 ) is a British computer scientist.

Rowstron received his master's degree in computer science from the University of York in 1993 and received his doctorate there in 1997. He then conducted research at Cambridge University and was a consultant to the Olivetti and Oracle research laboratories in Cambridge. From 1999 he was with Microsoft Research in Cambridge.

He is Principal Researcher and Assistant Laboratory Director at Microsoft Research in Cambridge, where he heads the Systems and Networks department.

With Peter Druschel and Miguel Castro , he worked on the Pastry technology for overlay networks with peer-to-peer , used in the group communication software Scribe (used by Microsoft in customer relationship management , for example ) and in SplitStream (distribution of Streaming content), as well as in the programming interface DRT API (Distributed Router Table) and the PNRP API of Windows. The corresponding essays are among the highly cited works. Distributed hash tables (DHT) are also related to this .

He also works on storage-intensive data center applications for cloud computing ( rack scale computers).

Rowstron also dealt with routing protocols in radio networks and robot soccer.

In 2016 he received the Mark Weiser Award . In 2010 he became a Fellow of the British Computer Society .
