When the Elector of Trier Christoph von Sötern sent the bailiff Georg von der Leyen to Cochem with a state parliament decision of August 7, 1625 from the Trier state parliament, in which both the clerical and the secular classes had participated, Anthon Gobelig von Cochem was the one sole representative of the city to sign a document to finance the archbishopric's debts.

"... that everybody and everybody sold mine in this Coblenzer Erzstift raised the twenty-fifth pfennig collected from the Verkeuffer, and should be paid in such a way that there is a continuous general equality, both that of the knighthood, as well as Thum´ß (Dom´ß) and Johannitter Order and all other exemptions held, and no one should be exempted or spared neither spiritual nor worldly exempt ... For several execution, authorization and approval of all the above-described things, this farewell is four times ingrosed and executed, and by her electoral grace just as both laudable estates were sealed and signed, so give the 7th August 1625. "

The background to the collection of these taxes were the costs incurred by the Thirty Years' War . The mention of the name Anthon Gobelig is viewed in this context as a reference to the Trier state parliaments, which are currently being established for the first time. Representatives of the clergy at these diets were electoral councilors, the cathedral chapter and deputies of the secular estates.
