Anthony Borg Barthet

Anthony Borg Barthet (born March 25, 1947 in Valletta ) is a Maltese lawyer and former judge at the European Court of Justice .

Anthony Borg Barthet studied law at the University of Malta , where he obtained a doctorate in law in 1973. In 1975 he joined the Maltese public service as a Notary to Government . He became Counsel for the Republic in 1978 and Senior Counsel the following year . In 1989 he was appointed Attorney General by the President of Malta. Since 1985 he has also taught civil law at the University of Malta. From 1998 to 2004 he was a member of the University Council. He was also a member of the Justice Commission from 1994 to 2004 and a member of the Board of Directors of the Malta Arbitration Center from 1998 to 2004 . From May 2004 to October 2018, Anthony Borg Barthet was the first Maltese judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ) after Malta's accession to the EU.
