Anti-complex

Antikomplex is a non-profit organization dedicated to critical reflection on the history of the Czech Republic . The focus is particularly on the ethnic cleansing of the post-war period and the subsequent fate of the landscape and society in the former Sudetenland . She also deals with innovations in education and political education.

Antikomplex was founded in 1998 by a group of students in Prague . The aim was to foster a critical dialogue about one's own history, especially about the expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia in the post-war period. At first the topics were broad. For example, some events were dedicated to coexistence with the Roma . Gradually, however, the profile of an organization was developed that focuses on reflecting on the German-speaking history of the Czech Republic and on the fate of the so-called Sudetenland, an area that until 1945 was mostly populated by a German-speaking population.

Goals and Activities

Book and exhibition

Supporting critical reflection on the past is based on the conviction that the ability to reflect openly on one's own history has been one of the basic skills of every free society since the Second World War at the latest . The experiences, which were mainly gained by reflecting on Czech history and its connection to the present, especially using the example of the renewal of life in the Sudetes, are reflected in new educational methods for teaching in schools, which help to shape anti-complex. Another focus is on political education, with the aim of promoting an active awareness of citizenship.

Antikomplex creates exhibitions, organizes public debates, publishes self-published books, trains teachers, develops German-Czech educational projects and participates in Czech and German-Czech historical, social and cultural dialogue. Antikomplex's activities are aimed at active adults who are interested in the history and future of their own country and the relationship to the respective place, teachers of the humanities, young people interested in their own region and history, Czech and German experts.
