Antiochia am Kragos (Greek Ἀντιόχεια ἐπὶ Κράγῳ, Latin Antiocheia ad Cragum ) was an ancient city in Rough Cilicia ( Kilikia Tracheia ) on the south coast of Asia Minor , 20 km southeast of Selinus , today's Gazipaşa in the Turkish province of Antalya , near today's village Güneyköy.
It was founded probably in the middle of the 1st century AD by King Antiochus IV of Kommagene (38-72 AD) after Claudius had entrusted him with control of the rough Cilicia in 41 AD. From AD 72 it belonged to the new Roman province of Cilicia , from the beginning of the 4th century to the 7th century to the province of Isauria .
The center of the city with a colonnaded street, agora, thermal baths, temples and churches is located high on the slope above the sea, surrounded by extensive necropolises . For a long time it was assumed that the city was rather insignificant and only superficially Romanised, but in recent years there have been increasing signs that Antioch was more important and richer than expected. In 2012, for example, archaeologists from the University of Nebraska uncovered a 150-square-meter mosaic from around AD 300.
