Anti-cyclical behavior describes processes that go against general expectations or against normal behavioral patterns .

An anti-posture is always only one half of a movement or a process. It always presupposes a "against". It is not always possible to clearly determine which side is viewed as cyclical and which as countercyclical.

The expression has become common in the following areas in particular:

• General standard of living, e.g. B. for social attitudes or attitudes to belief in technology and progress.
• Financial policy : low public investment volume in times of economic boom in order to keep the investment ceiling low; Public spending to stimulate trade in the sense of countercyclical financial policy .
• Stock market : buying behavior contrary to the usual trend (selling when the price rises and buying when the price falls), see countercyclical investing .
• Training and further education: Striving for training in a segment with currently few opportunities in the hope that the situation will be reversed by the time the training is completed.
• in communication situations , especially in the professional area: respond to unfriendly reactions with friendliness, answer questions with counter-questions, etc.
