Antoine Gombaud (* 1607 in Poitou ; † December 29, 1684 ), known as Chevalier de Méré, was a French writer , nobleman and gambler.

The mathematical calculation of games of chance is connected to it. The De Méré Paradox was named after him. In 1654 he turned to Blaise Pascal because he was no longer successful with his games of chance. With the help of Pierre de Fermat , the chances of winning two dice games were precisely determined.
