Anton Neumann

Anton Neumann (born November 18, 1885 in Nymburk ; † October 11, 1964 in Steyr ) was an Austrian politician ( VdU ) and professor. From 1949 to 1953 he was a member of the National Council.

After elementary school, Neumann attended a secondary school and then studied at the University of Prague . In 1910 he passed the teaching exams for German and French at Austrian secondary schools. In 1911 he became a supplement at the state secondary school in Steyr. In 1913 he was appointed professor, from 1918 he worked as a professor at the secondary school in Steyr. Between 1938 and 1945 he was the director of this school. Neumann retired in 1948 as a professor at the Bundesrealgymnasium in Steyr.

Neumann is considered a pioneer in adult education and founded the adult education center in Steyr in 1950. He was also chairman of the Viennese "Urania" in Steyr.

Neumann was active in local politics between 1949 and 1952 as Vice Mayor of Steyr and then worked as a city councilor until 1960. He represented the Association of Independents in the National Council between November 8, 1949 and March 18, 1953. He was married and had three children.
