Antoninus (saint)

Antoninus (also: Antonius ) († 186 in Rome ) was an early Christian martyr and saint .

According to the Martyrologium Romanum , Antony was an executioner who, under the impression of the vision of an angel at the execution of the Christians Eusebius, Pontianus, Peregrinus and Vincentius, confessed to Christianity and was baptized by a priest named Rufinus . Antoninus confessed his faith before the governor Vitellius, whereupon he had him executed with the sword. Antoninus was buried near the Trajan Aqueduct .

The saint's feast day is August 22nd .
