Antonio Maceda Francés (born May 16, 1957 in Sagunt ) is a former Spanish football player .

Player career

Maceda began his career with Sporting Gijón in 1974 . He stayed with the Asturians until 1985 before moving to Real Madrid . During his time in Madrid he won the Spanish championship three times in a row and the Spanish Supercup once. Internationally, he won the 1986 UEFA Cup with the capital city . Maceda played through in the second final game in Berlin against 1. FC Köln . He ended his career in 1988.

Internationally, he played 36 times for Spain and scored eight goals. He took part in the 1982 World Cup in his own country (eliminated in the second group phase). He also took part in the European Football Championship in France in 1984 , where he was runner-up with the Spaniards. At the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1986 , he was eliminated with Spain in the quarter-finals.

He became known to the German audience through his flying header goal in the 90th minute in the last group game in the Paris Prinzenparkstadion at the European Championships in 1984, which meant the elimination for the German team (he had a similar goal in the 12: 1 against Malta in the European Championship qualification achieved). He scored his second goal in the semi-finals in a 1-1 draw against Denmark, which underlined his scoring risk as a Libero.
