Antonius Iulianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antonius Iulianus was a Roman writer. He was from Hispania and lived around the middle of the 2nd century.

Iulianus is only documented in the Noctes Atticae by Aulus Gellius , who was taught by him. Gellius describes him as a style critic and specialist in older Roman literature, so u. a. for Quintus Claudius Quadrigarius . Further statements by Gellius suggest that Iulianus was also a teacher of rhetoric and possibly the author of a work entitled Declamationes , which has not survived. Gellius states that Iulianus' Latin had a Hispanic accent, which suggests his Hispanic origin.

Antonius Iulianus is not identical to the Procurator of the Province of Iudaea , Mark Antonius Iulianus , who is mentioned by Minucius Felix .
