Antun Sorkočević
Antun Sorkočević (also Antonio Sorgo ; born December 25, 1775 in Ragusa , † February 14, 1841 in Paris ) was a Croatian composer, non-fiction author and diplomat.
Sorkočević was trained by his father Luka Sorkočević and studied in Rome from 1789 to 1791 . He then went to Paris as envoy of the Republic of Ragusa , where he remained even after his hometown had lost its independence (1808). He became a member of the Academie Celtique , an archaeological society, and published a. a. the Memoire sur la langue et le moeurs des peuples slaves .
In addition to four symphonies and five overtures, Sorkočević composed two trio sonatas and a piano sonata for four hands, several psalms, two tantum ergo and other vocal works.
