Aorounga
Location of the Aorounga crater in Chad |
The Aorounga is an eroded impact crater in Chad in Africa .
The visible remnant of the crater is 12.6 kilometers in diameter and is estimated to be less than 345 million years old.
In the vicinity of the Aurounga crater there are two circular structures that were detected using the SIR-C radar of a space shuttle . It is possible that these are also the remains of impact craters. If confirmed, its origin could be related to the Aorounga impact event and Aorounga could be part of a chain of craters.
