Apache Flink is a free stream processing - Framework , developed by the Apache Software Foundation . The core of Apache Flink is a distributed data flow - Engine that allows both data streams as well as batch data processing.

Apache Flink can process continuous data streams as well as batch data. The Apache Software Foundation framework is available as open source software. Apache Flink evolved from an Apache Incubator project and became a top-level project.

Apache Flink version 1.0.0 was released in 2016. Typical areas of application for Apache Flink are:

  • real-time control of financial transactions
  • the real-time evaluation of customer or user behavior on websites
  • the real-time processing of large amounts of sensor data from the automated processes of Industry 4.0
