Apache JMeter is a free tool, written in Java , for performing load tests in client / server applications, which is being developed by the Apache Software Foundation .
JMeter makes it possible to specify which parts of the application (such as multi-threaded) should be run through in order to get concrete results about the response time behavior by means of compiling a test plan . These are presented in the easy-to-use interface of JMeter. With logic components, listeners , samplers , timers and configuration elements, test plans can be created down to the last detail. JMeter can also be used as a proxy component to record a sequence of test steps that can be used as the basis of test plans. A special feature is that requests sent by means of a sampler are not limited to HTTP and HTTPS , but can also be generated for FTP , SOAP and JDBC . JMeter is particularly suitable for testing REST services.
