Apam is the capital of the Gomoa District in the Central Region of Ghana in West Africa . According to Census of 2000, the town has 16,494 inhabitants. Apam is located on the coast of the Atlantic , about 68 km from the regional capital Cape Coast and 69 km from the state capital Accra .
The town's greatest attraction is the historic Fort Patience (also known as Fort Leydsamheit) from the 18th century. The only hospital in the district can be found in Apam. It has 105 beds and is operated by the Catholic Church .
