Apostolicum pascendi

Apostolicum pascendi is the title of a papal bull from 1765 with the Pope Clement XIII. confirmed the order of the Jesuits , despite great political resistance .

Defense of the Jesuit order

After the Jesuit order, especially in France , in 1764 under political and intra-church pressure by Louis XV. got, Pope Clement XIII. made to intervene. With this bull, the Pope turned against the attacks on the Society of Jesus and condemned the slanders raised. On this occasion, he praised the work of the Jesuits and emphasized their work, especially in the dioceses . To protect the Jesuits from further attacks, he reaffirmed the order as it was originally founded. He advocated their working method and underlined his solidarity with the order members.

Remarks

In some sources this bull also bears the name Apostolicum pascendi mini or Apostolicum pascendi munus , also different dates are given for the publication, so these fluctuated between January 7th, January 9th, January 12th and April 7th, 1765. The content is identical for all variants.
