Il Gesù in Rome - mother church of the Jesuit order
With the papal bull “Sollicitudo omnium ecclesiarum” (Latin: care for all churches ) of August 7, 1814, Pope Pius VII restored the Jesuit order all over the world . After it was repealed by Pope Clement XIV in 1773, Pius VII reinstated the Jesuit order in the Russian Empire in 1801 and then in Naples in 1801 .
On August 7, 1814, Pope Pius VII celebrated Holy Mass in the Church of Il Gesù in Rome , which is consecrated to Saint Ignatius of Loyola and founder of the Jesuit order . Afterwards he had the bull read out, which restored the order for the whole world.
