New Apostolic Church

The apostolic hymn book along with brief instructions for the divine service was the first hymn book of the New Apostolic Church .

history

The Apostolic Hymnbook appeared in 1889. It was reprinted until 1905 and replaced in 1909/1910 by the first edition of the New Apostolic Hymnbook . Initially, this book did not contain any notation, it was a pure text edition. The first four-part choral setting was published in 1900. This was relocated until 1906.

content

At the time of the first edition, the hymnbook contained 390 songs, which were later supplemented by appendices. The last edition of 1906 contained 521 pieces. About 170 were taken from the basic inventory of the Protestant hymn book . A number of revival songs were also recorded. The text edition of the Apostolic Hymn book also contained information on the liturgy and prayer texts. The chorus edition also contained a chorale that was not intended for congregational singing, so it ultimately contained 522 songs.

Association of Apostolic Congregations

The hymn book of the German Apostolic Community and the Swiss Association of Apostolic Christians , published in 1959, was also referred to as the Apostolic Hymnal . These churches emerged from the New Apostolic Church in 1955 and have adopted most of the hymns from there.

A congregation edition without sheet music appeared in 1959, the four-part sheet music edition in 1966. The hymn book contained 612 songs, which were divided into the rubrics of worship, sacraments, acts of blessing, the Christian church year and on special occasions . It was published by the Association of Apostles of the Apostolic Congregations .

Since 2005 it has been replaced by a new hymn book with the title Sing to the Lord .
