apparatus
The term apparatus (from Latin apparatus , tool ) has different meanings depending on the subject area:
- generally a technical structure of higher complexity , see also device (in the technically narrower sense a signal or information converting structure ) or machine (in the technically narrower sense an energy or force converting structure ), or apparatus in the technically narrower sense:
- in process engineering a structure that converts material or matter , see apparatus (process engineering)
- in edition studies the collected variants of the main text of a critical edition, see text-critical apparatus . Apparatus also generally refers to footnotes, endnotes, source citations, bibliographies, etc. that accompany the text.
- A smaller collection of media in libraries, see inventory form Apparat
- in biology and anatomy an organ system , for example a swallowing apparatus
- a machine paradigm in philosophy
- a term in politics, see administration
- Apparat (musician) , a German electronics musician
- a plurality of institutions (e.g. state apparatus , force apparatus , police apparatus ), with this meaning mostly used in the singular.
