history
The band Appearance of Nothing was founded in 2004 by Pat Gerber (vocals, guitar), Yves Lüthi (drums), Omar Cuna (bass) and Marc Petralito (keyboard). After a short experimental phase, the band began to write their own songs. From that moment on, Pat Gerber and Omar Cuna shared the vocals in order to make the songs even more varied.
In 2005 the band released their first self-produced demo album Behind Closed Doors , which received positive reactions. Peter Berger joined the band as lead guitarist, and in 2008 the first studio album Wasted Time was created . Markus Teske, who had already worked with bands such as Vanden Plas , Symphony X , Saga and Mob Rules , was responsible for the production . With the album Wasted Time , an album was created that combined elements from Dream Theater , Symphony X and Vanden Plas. In the years 2008/2009 the band concentrated on live performances and played many concerts of their own or as a support act for well-known bands.
In 2010 the second studio album All Gods Are Gone was released , which was much heavier and more modern than the first album and in which the guest singers Devon Graves ( Psychotic Waltz , Deadsoul Tribe ) and Dan Swanö (Sanity, Nightingale ) participated. In 2011 the band separated from their longtime drummer Yves Lüthi. After a short break, Ronnie Wolf's successor joined the band. In 2017 Peter Berger left the band and was replaced by Manuel Meinen. After the departure of singer and guitarist Pat Gerber, bassist and second singer Omar Cuna took over the lead vocals. Albert Ibrahimaj (Surrilium) from Freiburg im Breisgau became the new lead guitarist in 2018 .
style
The musical style of Appearance of Nothing is often compared to a mixture of different bands. Due to the high self-recognition value, it is also difficult to compare the band or to put them in a drawer. In addition to the numerous prog elements, blues, rock, heavy metal, death metal or even techno influences can also be recognized. The two-part and alternating vocal lines and the experimental keyboard sounds are striking. The guitar work is more solid and is supported by a driving rhythm section.
