Apple clone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apple Clones are copies (so-called clones ) of the home computer Apple II from the manufacturer Apple , which from 1977 was built.

The original Apple had hardly any highly integrated chips; most of the components, even the video electronics, were logic gates from the 74xx series. Only the 6502 - microprocessor and the 4116- DRAM memory chips were highly integrated for those times quite. At the same time, however, these two components were also easy to obtain, so that many companies dared to replicate them using the circuit diagram obtained via reverse engineering .

Some of the replicas had already built in the extensions that had to be purchased on plug-in cards for the original Apple II. Well-known examples are the 80-character extension and Z80 extension for the operation of CP / M .
