Applied Physics is a monthly journal for applied physics, which was published from 1973 by Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg New York . It has peer review .

There are series A and B. Applied Physics A deals with materials science and processing . Editor is Thomas Lippert (2019). Up to 2015, four volumes were published per year with four issues each (with differences in the early years), from 2016 only one volume per year with 12 issues. Applied Physics B deals with lasers and optics. Editor is Dieter Meschede (2019). As in series A, up to 2015 there were four volumes per year with four issues each (with differences in the early years), from 2016 only one volume per year with 12 issues.

Both theoretical and experimental contributions are published, along with regular articles, notifications for rapid communications and invited review articles.

Some of the articles are open access .

The editors of Applied Physics A and B award the Julius Springer Prize for Applied Physics , which is endowed with $ 5,000 and has been awarded since 1998.

history

The journal for applied physics was discontinued on December 31, 1971 by the publisher. After Helmut KV Lotsch came to Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg New York on January 1, 1972, he designed Applied Physics in 1972 and, after a one-year break with no connection to the discontinued journal, founded it externally together with a committee of international physicists and started with Volume 1 in 1973 published. Applied Physics existed from January 1973 to August 1981 (Volume 25, No. 4). Lotsch edited the magazine up to volume 25. Then in 1981 Lotsch divided it into parts A (Solids and Surfaces) and B (Photophysics and Laser Chemistry), each continued with volume number 26. Lotsch was also the editor of parts A and B to volume 61.
