Apport is free software for error reporting of program errors in desktop applications of the ( Unix ) work environment " Gnome ". It is developed by employees of the Canonical company under the direction of Martin Pitt in the Python programming language and distributed as free software under the conditions of Version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPL). It comes as a pre-installed standard component of the Linux distribution “ Ubuntu ” and systems derived from it. It is also used in openSUSE .
Apport detects program crashes , gathers information about the crash and the operating system environment for troubleshooting and transmits it to bug trackers in a standardized form. It also enables the user to report an error in a program package in a similar way .
There are several user interfaces - frontends : a text-based for command line - terminal emulation , two graphic - one on GTK + -based, another in Qt . 4
The first published version of the software appeared on July 10, 2006, after concept plans had been published a year earlier. Version 1.0 was released on April 7, 2009.
