Aprem Mooken

Mar Aprem Mooken (born June 13, 1940 in Thrissur ) is the incumbent Metropolitan of India of the Apostolic Church of the East .

George (baptismal name) Mooken studied in India, England and the USA. On 25 June 1961 he became a deacon , on 13 June 1965 priests ordained. On 21 September 1968 he ordained Metropolitan Thomas Darmo in Baghdad for bishop and a week later elevated him to the Metropolitan. On this occasion he took the name Aprem (after Ephrem the Syrian ). Initially bishop of the Old Church of the East , in 1995 he returned his parish to communion with the mother church under Catholicos Mar Dinkha IV .
