The Aprilia SR 50 is a sporty scooter company Aprilia , which with its launch in 1992 the market of 50 cc scooters changed.

history

In 1992 the first version of the Aprilia SR 50 scooter came on the market. The motorcycle scooter was technically state-of-the-art. For example, there was a disc brake at the front (only a drum brake at the rear ), different colors and it conveyed a sporty feeling when driving. Over the years he has repeatedly been a technological pioneer in the scooter segment. In 1994 it came onto the market as the first sporty motor scooter with liquid cooling, in 1997 as the first with disc brakes on the front and rear wheels, in 1999 as the first 50 cm³ motor scooter with electronic injection (Di-Tech).

The first series was built by 1996 and successfully sold. There were several versions:

  • Aprilia SR Urban Kid AC
  • Aprilia SR Esquire AC
  • Aprilia SR Replica LC

From 1997 the scooter was redesigned and had a very sporty and relatively aggressive design. As with the first series, the second series was built with normal carburettors. There were several models and colorations:

  • Aprilia SR WWW AC
  • Aprilia SR Netscaper LC
  • Aprilia SR Stealth LC
  • Aprilia SR Funmaster
  • Aprilia SR Racing
  • Aprilia Area 51

Later, from 1999, there was also a Di-Tech model that had an injection system instead of a carburetor. This system was manufactured by Siemens and Synerject and is no longer installed today. From 2000, 125 cc and 150 cc Aprilia SR were also available. They were roughly identical to the 50 cm³ variant, but only available air-cooled.

In 2004 the old model range was canceled and replaced by a new offer. The currently third series offers two different designs, each with several color variants.

  • SR50 Street - optically corresponds to the second series, liquid-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke carburettor engine with exhaust gas recirculation, complies with the Euro2 emissions standard
  • SR50 R - new design; Engine technically the same as the SR50 Street, but with a different chassis and digital speedometer
  • SR50 R Factory - optically identical to the SR50 R, liquid-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke injection engine

The SR 50 R Factory is available with direct injection and a digital speedometer with many additional functions. With around 2.7 liters of fuel per 100 km, it is considered economical. Thanks to the injection system, the Factory has around 1 hp more than the carburettor version.

Special models

Special models appear again and again, which are optically modified mainly on one topic with stickers and other color combinations.

  • Aprilia SR 50 AC RTL in red-blue-orange (until 1996)
  • Aprilia SR 50 LC Di-Tech "Spiderman" in a striking red-blue paintwork with spider web stickers
  • Aprilia SR 50 LC Di-Tech “Poggiali”, white-black-red paintwork with gold-colored lion head sticker
  • Aprilia SR 50 R "Spains no.1", black-red paintwork with stickers with the words Spains no.1

The Aprilia SR is one of the most popular scooters in Europe, especially among young people. Many manufacturers produce tuning parts for this model. Polini , Malossi , Koso are just a few of the companies. As a result, a large number of models modified by young people and no longer street legal are offered on the used market, which means that the used prices for original, checkbook-maintained models with a traceable history are comparatively high in contrast to models with similar technology (e.g. the Aprilia Rally ). The successor model is the Aprilia SR50R. This automatic scooter was built with a 2-stroke carburettor engine and an injection engine. The latter model was called the SR50 R Factory.
