Apsyrtos (medic)
Apsyrtos was a Greek veterinarian who came from the city of Prusa or Nicomedia in Bithynia . He lived in the 4th century AD.
Apsyrtus, whose specialty was equine medicine (hippiatry), took part in the campaign of the Roman emperor Constantine against the Sarmatians (332–334 AD). His two books on veterinary medicine have not survived but are frequently cited by later veterinary writers. The writings of Apsyrtus are, along with those of his contemporary Hierocles (who relies on Apsyrtus), a major source for the Hippiatrica .
