Aptinus is a genus of the ground beetle family(Carabidae). It occurs in Europe and Asia Minor.
features
The beetles are usually more than 10 millimeters long. They are deep black in color, their appendages are brown. The wing covers are truncated slightly obliquely towards the inside, but strongly narrowed towards the front. The genus has no shoulder bulge. Compared to Brachinus , the tarsi end links are broader. The elytra strips are deep and have individual, different sized points. A chin tooth is present.
Systematics
In Central Europe only the black bombardier beetle ( Aptinus bombarda ) occurs.
