Aquarium is a graphical user interface developed by Convekta into which various chess engines can be integrated. Aquarium was developed as a surface for Rybka , which is where the name aquarium comes from, as Rybka means small fish in Czech . There is only one version for Windows , but since Aquarium has been optimized for Wine , it can also be used under Linux .
Functions
The program is primarily specialized in analysis functions, so the IDeA ("Interactive Deep Analysis"), in which a tree is created from engine evaluations, is best known. Aquarium's book format includes ideas from Dagh Nielsen, who is the only unassisted winner to date at a freestyle chess tournament . Since March 2009 an opening book by Jeroen Noomen has been published in aquarium book format. Aquarium can also be used to open digital chess books, called "iBooks", in which the moves in the book can be displayed on a chess board. Aquarium can also be used to work with chess databases , engine tournaments can be held and you can play against chess engines.
A special feature of Aquarium is that suggestions for improving the program can be made in the Rybkaforum and the developers there answer questions about the program.
history
The first version, referred to as Aquarium 3.0, was released in August 2008 together with Rybka 3. The UCI extensions were supported by Rybka 3. This was followed by regular minor updates that fixed bugs and added new functions. In March 2009 version 3.1 was released, which "iBooks" can open. In addition, together with the update, the book "The middle game in chess" by Eugène Znosko-Borovsky was offered free of charge in English as an "iBook". At the end of 2009, Aquarium 2010 was published, which is also known as Aquarium 4 and brought innovations, especially at IDeA (distribution over several engines). This surface is also included in the Rybka 4 Aquarium package.
