Arakamtschetschen ( Russian Аракамчечен ) is an uninhabited island in the far east of Russia . It lies east of the Chukchi Peninsula in the Bering Sea and administratively belongs to the Prowideniya Rajon in the Chukchi Autonomous Okrug (Chukotka).
Arakamtschetschen is separated from the mainland by the approximately 5 to 10 km wide Senjawin Strait . The island is 32 km long and up to 21 km wide; its coastline is 75.3 km long and its area is 267.8 km². It reaches a height of 615 m above sea level in Mount Atos . 3 km south of Arakamchechen Island is the island of Yttygran Island (Ыттыгран) , about 60 km south-east to Alaska belonging St. Lawrence Island .
Arakamtschetschen is known for its large walrus populations and is a popular destination for ecotourists .
