Arambi Ibragimowitsch Jemish

Arambi Ibragimowitsch Jemisch ( Russian Арамбий Ибрагимович Емиж ; born February 9, 1953 in Assokolay , Adygeja ) is a former Russian judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1980.

Career

The 1.65 m tall Jemish began with sambo . In this sport he won the Soviet championship title and the European championship title in 1974, each in the extra light weight. With the international introduction of the weight class up to 60 kilograms in judo in 1977, Jemisch had a perspective here too. In 1978 he became the Soviet champion in judo. In 1979 he won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Brussels . Jemisch also took third place at the pre-Olympic tournament in Moscow, which was held in 1979 as part of the Spartakiad . In October 1979 he won the title at the European Team Championships with the Soviet team. At the World Championships in Paris in 1979 , he finished fifth.

Although Jemisch had only finished second at the Soviet championships in 1980, he represented the Soviet Union at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Jemisch reached the semifinals with victories over the Austrian Josef Reiter , the Algerian Ahmed Moussa and the Mongolian Dorj Janjmaa . There he was defeated by the French Thierry Rey . In the battle for a bronze medal, Jemisch defeated Pavel Petřikov from Czechoslovakia by Ippon . At the end of 1980, Jemisch finished second with the Soviet team behind the French at the European Team Championship.
