Arantxa Urretabizkaia (born July 1, 1947 in Donostia ) is a Basque writer .

Life

Arantxa Urretabizkaia, born in Donostia in 1947, now lives in Hondarribia . As an important voice, the graduate historian is a regular guest on talk shows and discussions on political and social issues. In 2001 she received the Rikardo Arregi Prize for her journalistic work.

Works in Basque

Her poetic work includes San Pedro bezperaren ondokoak (1972, The Consequences of the Night Before San Pedro) and Maitasunaren magalean (1982, In the lap of love). Her most famous prose publication is Zergatik Panpox (1979, Why Panpox). The short novel provoked at the time because the author chose a single mother as the protagonist.

This was followed by scripts, other novels such as Saturno (1987, Saturn) and Koaderno gorria (1998, Das Rote Heft) as well as the collection of short stories Aspaldian espero zaitudalako ez nago sekula bakarrik (1983, Since I've been waiting for you for a long time, I'm never lonely) and the youth book Aurten aldatuko da nire bizitza (1992, This year my life will change).

Works in German

In 2007 the Pahl-Rugenstein Verlag published the German translation of Koaderno gorria - "The Red Booklet" in the Zubiak - Basque Library series . It is a letter from a Basque activist who went into hiding in the 1980s to avoid arrest. In it she tells her personal story, which is closely interwoven with the political disputes of those years. Since she cannot leave her hiding place herself, she asks the young lawyer Laura to track down the children in Caracas and give them the notebook.
