The employers' association of insurance companies in Germany (AGV) is an association of employers in the private insurance industry in Germany in the legal form of a registered association. Its seat is in Munich. Almost 99 percent of all insurance companies based in Germany belong to the association, which means that 215,000 employees in the industry are represented by the association.

history

At a general meeting of the General Association of the Insurance Industry on October 5, 1950 in Bad Kissingen , Werner Plath, chairman of the board of the National Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG, initiated the establishment of a unified employers' association for the German insurance industry. Representatives from 89 insurance companies submitted applications for membership. Initially the organization was called the Employers' Association of Insurance Companies , in 1962 the name was supplemented by Germany and in 1984 the logo was changed from agv to AGV. The chairman of the Munich Association Roman Simon (1888–1951) became the first chairman of the AGV, followed by Horst Schiemann . Edgar Mussil (1912–2008) was the managing director for many years.

As a party to the collective bargaining agreement, the AGV negotiates with unions and makes agreements with them. He also suggests people for appointment as honorary judges at the labor courts and social courts .
