Cutting size (machining)
Forces or intervention variables are in the manufacturing technology in machining sizes directly by the operator on or the CNC program machine tool can be set. Among them include the feed f, the contact width (also cutting depth or cutting width ) or delivery and the depth of cut (cutting width working engagement ) . In contrast to this, the chip sizes are derived from the internal forces and result from the tool setting angle .

The feed engagement refers to the engagement of the tool in the feed direction.

The chip width is the width of the chip perpendicular to the cutting direction measured in the cutting plane .
The chip thickness is the thickness of the chip perpendicular to the cutting direction, measured perpendicular to the cutting surface.
The chip cross-section is the cross-section of the chip to be removed, measured in the cut surface.
Metal removal rate
When calculating the material removal rate Q, there are special features for milling and grinding, since the cutting direction changes during the rotation of the tool. The volume removed per unit of time results here as
with as feed rate .
