Yokko (spelling YOKKO) is a Swiss band from Bern , Zurich and Baden . Their music is assigned to the styles of indie , pop and rock , with the band calling their style "Atlantic Wave".

history

founding

Yokko formed at the end of 2011 from Adrian Erni ( lead vocals , guitar ), Philipp Treyer (guitar, vocals ), Mats Tröhler ( bass , vocals), Domenic Schüpbach ( drums ) and Daniel Fanslau ( piano ) in Bern. The individual band members know each other from previous musical projects and studies. In early 2012, the band released the self-produced EP Y . In particular, the song Calling All Gods and the accompanying video clip received national resonance and helped the band to achieve nationwide radio airplay and appearances at various festivals (including Gurtenfestival 2012 and Zurich Openair 2012).

Debut album Seven Seas

In February 2013, studio work began on the self-produced debut album Seven Seas , which was released on August 23, 2013 and reached number 10 in the Swiss album charts.

The subsequent “Seven Seas Tour” took the band through Switzerland, Germany and Holland with highlights at Bierhübeli Bern , Gurtenfestival, OpenAir St. Gallen, Gampel Openair, Molotow Club Hamburg, Ampere Munich, Eurosonic Noorderslag and the three sold out concerts at Paradiso Amsterdam , De Oosterpoort Groeningen and Patronaat Harlem as opening act for the Dutch band Kensington.

In September 2013, Yokko was voted “Best Talent September” by Radio SRF 3. "Yokko's debut Seven Seas sets new standards in Swiss pop."

In February 2014 Yokko received the Swiss Music Award for “Best Talent”.

Second album To the Fighters. To the boxers.

After more than 50 shows on the "Seven Seas" debut tour, the band moved back to Berlin in August 2015 to work on their second album To the Fighters. To the boxers. to work.

The album was produced by Niels Zuiderhoek (YouGuys Music) at Voxton Studios Berlin and was released on March 4, 2016.

The album entered the Swiss album charts at number 2. This was followed by concerts in Japan, European tours with the American post rock band Nada Surf and the Australian The Temper Trap as well as own shows in Switzerland, Germany and Holland.

With targeted song releases such as Boxer (official Zurich Pride Song) and Dreamer (official SRF Every Rappen Counts Song), the band repeatedly supported important social issues.

Withdrawal and restart

An indie rock band who, after a Swiss Music Award and over 300 explosive shows in half of Europe and Japan, erases all their music, withdraws into the vacuum of silence to rediscover the essence of their music? That might sound crazy - but that's exactly what YOKKO did.

Back in the urban underground of Bern, new sounds flicker through the room and let the first listeners drift into as yet undiscovered worlds. «Every note catapults cinematic waves through intergalactic spheres and is still close to the heart -« Atlantic Wave »par excellence! The four musicians have found each other again. "

With Thief, YOKKO have once again packed heavy topics such as "Depression" into melodies. Thief is the first official song after the band's own restart.
