Renewable Energy Working Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Renewable Energy Consortium (AEE) is an Austrian umbrella association for the use of renewable energy based in Gleisdorf .

history

It was founded in East Styria in 1988 and emerged from a group that built solar systems . An umbrella organization was then founded together with groups from other Austrian federal states. The aim of the AEE is to spread the use of solar thermal energy and other applications of renewable energies . The AEE has around 4,000 members across Austria and publishes the specialist journal “renewable energy” .

background

The oil price crisis at the end of the 1970s triggered the first “solar boom”. At that time there were individual initiatives to build solar systems yourself. Starting with two do-it-yourself pioneers in Eastern Styria, the knowledge about do-it-yourself options spread quickly. Collective orders for the required materials and personal contribution kept costs low. Typically, up to 100 collectors per week were handcrafted and assembled in the activists' free time. The self-assemblies soon had a pool of special tools to streamline production. In 1986, more collector area was self-made in Austria than by commercial providers. From the late 1990s onwards, many Austrian companies in the solar industry made use of this experience.

offices

There are now 5 offices in Austria that specialize in different aspects of renewable energy.

  • AEE INTEC in Gleisdorf
  • AEE Carinthia in Villach
  • AEE NÖ Wien in Vienna
  • AEE Vorarlberg
  • AEE Salzburg
